An intimate Pasadena elopement photographed with a relaxed, documentary approach. This day was all about keeping things simple and meaningful, with candid moments, natural portraits, and the beautiful architecture of Pasadena as the backdrop.
There’s something effortlessly romantic about an intimate elopement at Pasadena City Hall. The historic architecture, warm stone, beautiful archways, and surrounding courtyards create so many different backdrops within a short walk, making it one of my favorite places for an intimate celebration in Southern California.
For this elopement, we kept the experience simple and relaxed, leaving plenty of time to walk around City Hall, explore the architecture, and create a mix of naturally directed portraits and candid moments without making the afternoon feel like one long photoshoot.
If you’re planning your own Pasadena City Hall elopement or couples session, I recommend scheduling your photography on a weekday whenever possible. Weekends can get quite busy with weddings, photoshoots, visitors, and other events, while weekdays generally give us more freedom to move around and photograph in some of the most beautiful areas without constantly working around crowds.
Timing matters just as much. For a photography session, I usually recommend starting closer to sunset rather than in the middle of the day. The softer evening light works beautifully with the warm architecture and gives us the opportunity to photograph both around City Hall and in the surrounding Pasadena streets as the light changes.
And you don’t need to arrive knowing how to pose. I’ll guide you when direction is helpful, find the best light and locations, and leave plenty of room for the natural moments in between.
